An upcoming show at The Lower Tavern will benefit The Exchange.
On Saturday, Dec. 20, Orcas Island’s own group, the Splinters, will be playing starting at 9 p.m. The Splinters, a pop and punk rock band, will likely be joined by a few friends as well. The show has a suggested $5 per person donation at the door. Proceeds will be benefit getting the Exchange back up and running.
Orcas Recycling Services is looking at buying a 35-acre piece of property to house the new Exchange, the island’s reuse center that burned down two years ago. The property is owned by a long-time island family and is located near the Old Trout Inn on Orcas Road. The land already has a building that could house the Exchange permanently.
Currently ORS is in the feasibility study portion of the process to make sure the new property will work. ORS is estimating a figure of a half a million dollars to complete the project.
