Orcas Island School District has named local teacher Lorena Stankevich as interim elementary principal.

Interviews for the position were conducted last week, wherein Superintendent Eric Webb and a committee interviewed three candidates. Stankevich was offered the position on Friday, July 29 and will be officially appointed during the a special school board meeting on Monday, Aug. 15.

According to Webb, Stankevich is a National Board Certified teacher, district curriculum leader through a grant she co-authored and a leader and member of several district committees and initiatives.

“I am excited to add Mrs. Stankevich to the district’s administrative team, and for the leadership that she will bring to the elementary school,” said Webb.
