Stroke Talk at Fire Station

May is stroke awareness month and Division Chief and Paramedic Patrick Shepler will be giving two informational talks at the Eastsound fire station on how to recognize the signs of a stroke. The one-hour talks will be on May 22 at 10 a.m. and 7 p.m.

Stroke is the third leading cause of death and permanent disability in the U.S. Nearly 800,000 people have a stroke each year with the results split evenly between death, major disability and recovery. Strokes are emergencies where time is a critical factor.
