• Joseph R. Boucher of Orcas Island, Wash. has been awarded the Carper Foundation Orcas Island Public Schools scholarship for the 2010-11 academic year at Eastern Washington University. The award is given to students who graduated from Orcas Island High School. Boucher graduated from Orcas Island High School last year. He currently attends EWU where he is studying music education. He is the son of Rick and Theresa Boucher of Eastsound.

• Jenna Schmidt, daughter of Nancy and Jerry Schmidt of Eastsound, was named to the dean’s list at Sweet Briar College for outstanding academic achievement for the 2010 spring semester. A sophomore at Sweet Briar, Schmidt is majoring in sociology.

• Bochay Drum, graduate of Waldron Island (Orcas School District), received his Bachelor of Science in Science and Society from Brown’s University, Providence, Rhode Island on May 29, 2010.
