On Sunday, May 17, at 5: p.m., Orcas Island Prevention Partnership will hold its annual meeting at the Orcas Senior Center.
Featuring an evening of music, food and sharing, the night begins with the return of the Farm to Community evening meal, organized by Owen Cheevers, that celebrates local growers and businesses.
After dinner OIPP will present its annual “Prevention Partner” awards, honoring an organization, an individual and a youth that each exemplify working for prevention on Orcas.
Then internationally known Swil Kanim, a Northwest Native American violinist, will perform. A featured performer on radio and TV, Kanim has opened for the Indigo Girls, played for the Dali Lama and recently performed four “sold out” shows at Smithsonian’s Museum of the American Indian in Washington, DC.
He will be joined after his performance by Michael Mele to facilitate a short community forum on “Bringing Together Community – empowering ourselves in mindful ways.” Children are welcome for the food, fun and performance and childcare will be provided during the community forum.
