Tab theft, erroneous emails, uneasy easement | San Juan County Sheriff’s Log

The San Juan County Sheriff’s Office responded to the following calls.

May 10

• A deputy took a report of an explosion in the Eastsound area. Descriptions of suspects were provided and the case is being investigated.

May 11

• A San Juan deputy assisted the Park Rangers with a female acting suspiciously and erratically at Moran State Park. When the deputy and ranger were walking away, the woman initiated contact again and bit the deputy. She was then placed under arrest and transported to San Juan.

• An Orcas deputy served no-trespass warning letters to two individuals who illegally parked and set up camp on private property on Madrona St.

• A Lopez deputy responded to a threats call from Decatur Island.

• A deputy responded to a theft report. A Lopez citizen reported that vehicle tabs and registration were stolen from a vehicle parked in a private driveway.

• A deputy on San Juan received a report of a welfare check for a person who was walking in the roadway. When the deputy contacted the person, they learned there was an outstanding warrant for her arrest. She was arrested and booked into the San Juan County Jail.

May 12

• On Orcas, deputies received a report of a man yelling at goats, and what sounded like the goats being hit. The goats’ owner came into the Sheriff’s Office and admitted to yelling at the goats; the loud banging was two baby goats running into the side of the goat house.

• A deputy on San Juan Island was dispatched to a report of an assault and issued the perpetrator a criminal citation for Assault-4th degree.

• Lopez deputies responded to an ongoing citizen dispute over landlord-tenant/trespassing issues. The parties will likely need to resolve the issue in civil court due to a history of poor decisions.

May 13

• A San Juan deputy responded to a report of the driver of a vehicle swerving, with a child in the back. The deputy located the vehicle, which nearly struck the deputy head-on, resulting in a brief pursuit. The driver was arrested for seven felony and misdemeanor offenses and was booked into jail.

• A Lopez deputy mediated a dispute over an easement. Both parties agreed to work together with their respective attorneys for a resolution.

• A deputy on Orcas responded to a report of a theft in Eastsound. The business owner is still working on getting the video surveillance, and the case is ongoing.

• Deputies on San Juan were dispatched to a report of a missing youth hiker. The hiker was located with assistance from the Friday Harbor Labs boat and safely returned home.

• Lopez deputies assisted EMS when an intoxicated individual fell and cut their face. They were examined and transported to the hospital.

• A report of an unwanted person was made to the Sheriff’s Office. The Friday Harbor man was asked to leave and given a trespass notice.

• On Orcas, civil paperwork was served electronically via email.

May 14

• A deputy on San Juan Island was dispatched to a report of vandalism.

• On San Juan, a deputy spoke with an individual who wanted to report that they had been receiving unwelcomed e-mails, from unknown persons who were name-calling. The individual wanted the incident to be documented.

May 15

• A Lopez deputy responded to a fraud call. An individual was having a labor payment dispute with a contracted worker. The matter was determined to be civil in nature.

• On San Juan, a deputy responded to a report of a possibly neglected animal. The animal was found to be possibly underweight and a feeding plan was established, and future follow-up was required.

• A deputy on San Juan took a report of threats after a person reported they felt threatened after a phone call. The individual was told they can petition for a no-contact order through the courts, and to call back if the individual shows up at their residence.

May 16

• A deputy responded with San Juan Fire and EMS to a report of a suspected overdose. EMS was able to revive the victim on scene and were then transported to the hospital for further care.

• A deputy on Orcas responded to a reported protection order violation. After investigation, it was determined that no crime had been committed.

• An individual on San Juan found another person’s debit card and turned it into the Sheriff’s Office. The deputy tried to return the card to the owner but was unable to locate them, and the card was submitted into evidence as found property.

• Deputies on San Juan responded to a report of drugs in Friday Harbor. A male was seen passed out on a bench with drug paraphernalia near him. After talking with the person, they voluntarily gave the drug paraphernalia to the deputies.

• A deputy on San Juan stopped the driver of a vehicle with an expired registration. The deputy discovered the driver also did not have insurance on the vehicle and the driver was cited for the registration violation and for not having insurance.
