Parents, students ages 10 to 18, and the public are invited to a community forum on Tuesday, April 28, 6:30 p.m. in the Orcas Middle School Cafeteria.
Led by panelists Randy Gaylord, County Prosecuting Attorney, Sergeant Steve Vierthaler, San Juan County Sheriff’s Department;,Michael Mele, licensed psychotherapist with Clear Path Counseling, and Michael Jennings, County Juvenile Probation Officer, the topics will include information about risky behaviors as signposts for potential problem behaviors that can result in legal consequences and the “anatomy” of an arrest.
Panelists will also present information about the consequences and enforcement of laws related to juvenile misbehavior, underage drinking, driving under the influence, drug use and possession, the underlying psychological stress and trauma for juvenile offenders and its effects on family dynamics and long term (juvenile) treatment and the effects of having a record. Ample time will also be given for questions and answers.
