The San Juan County Sheriff’s Office responded to the following calls.

Oct. 20

• A Lopez deputy was sent to euthanize a road-struck deer with broken legs.

• A San Juan deputy responded to a report of a dog that was sold in Friday Harbor that belonged to an off-island couple. The dog was returned to its owner and the deputy’s report was sent to the prosecutor’s office for a charging decision of second-degree theft.

• A San Juan deputy responded to a report of a found wallet, contacted the owner and returned the property.

• A deputy on San Juan observed a person driving a vehicle who was known to be wanted on a warrant. The person was contacted at their residence and placed under arrest.

• A San Juan deputy located a person with a suspected felony warrant in Friday Harbor. The subject was detained and ultimately released after it was determined they were not the correct suspect.

• Orcas deputies were dispatched to a trespassing call at a local business. The subject was gone upon arrival and the case was submitted to the prosecuting attorney’s office for charging.

• Orcas deputies were dispatched to a trespassing call.

Oct. 21

• A Lopez deputy assisted a semi-truck driver who turned down the wrong driveway. The damages will be handled civilly with the property owner.

• A San Juan deputy stopped the driver of a vehicle for traveling 41 mph in a posted 25 mph speed zone. The driver was issued a citation for speeding and a warning for driving left-of-center.

• A deputy on San Juan responded to a report of an unwanted person. The deputy contacted the person who was known to be on alcohol conditions. The subject appeared to be intoxicated and in possession of alcohol. A report on the violation of the court-ordered conditions was sent to the prosecuting attorney’s office.

•Lopez deputy responded to a trespassing call. Upon investigation, no crime had been committed.

Oct. 22

• A deputy on San Juan was dispatched to a welfare check. The subject was contacted and later to be found violating court-ordered alcohol conditions. A report was forwarded to the prosecuting attorney’s office.

• A deputy on Orcas responded to a hit-and-run collision involving property damage. An investigation commenced and is ongoing.

• A San Juan deputy conducted a traffic stop on Roche Harbor Road. The driver was issued a citation for speeding, 63 mph in a 45 mph zone.

• An Orcas deputy assisted county maintenance with disposing of a tent and a large amount of rotting food all discarded on the Village Green. The broken/torn tent and food were causing a health hazard and attracting vermin.

• A Lopez resident reported damage to a window on her residence. The exact cause is unknown, but an errant bullet is a possibility.

• A deputy on Orcas authored a lost property report regarding a lost ring.

• An Orcas deputy served a person a trespass warning letter.

• A deputy on San Juan stopped the driver of a vehicle for a defective brake light. The driver was issued citations for not having insurance, not having a driver’s license on their person, defective brake light, and an intermediate driver’s license violation of having passengers under 20 years old.

Oct. 23

• An Orcas deputy took a found property report. The owner of the property was located and the property was mailed back to them.

• A deputy on San Juan responded to a report of a trespassing. A suspect was located and arrested for first-degree trespassing and third-degree malicious mischief.

Oct. 24

• A deputy was dispatched to a theft in Friday Harbor. The caller reported that a person had taken the tip jar from a business. The caller provided a description of the suspect.

• A San Juan deputy took a report of suspicious mail. The incident was documented at the request of the reporting party.

Oct. 25

• A deputy on San Juan responded to a report of a burglary. Charges for malicious mischief-third degree were forwarded to the prosecutor’s office for a charging decision.

• An Orcas deputy responded to a theft callback.

• A Lopez deputy checked on a report of a kayak adrift in Fisherman Bay. The kayak was located floating offshore, with no evidence of accompanying gear anywhere nearby. Unusually high tides and gale-force winds likely floated the kayak from shore.

• A deputy on San Juan responded to a report of a theft. The reporting party stated someone stole three sweatshirts, a cell phone and some change. The suspect has not been located at the time of the report.

• San Juan deputies responded to a domestic argument. Both parties involved were contacted, but no crimes were found to have been committed.

• San Juan deputies responded to a domestic disturbance 911 call. All parties were contacted and it was determined that no crime had been committed.

• A deputy on Orcas conducted a traffic stop. The driver was cited for speeding, 60 mph in a 35 mph zone.

Oct. 26

• San Juan deputies responded to a 911 call reporting in-progress vandalism. An unknown suspect destroyed a community member’s vehicle by slashing the tires and smashing out the windows. The investigation is ongoing.

• A deputy responded to a welfare check in Friday Harbor. The caller stated he had not heard from his brother in five days. The victim was found in his apartment deceased of apparent natural causes. A Uniform Death Report was completed and sent to the coroner/prosecuting attorney’s office.

• A deputy was dispatched to an assault in the Friday Harbor area. A long care patient had pushed a staff member. The staff member did not pursue the incident.

• A San Juan deputy stopped the driver of a vehicle as the owner had a local warrant for their arrest. The person was booked into the San Juan County Jail.

• A San Juan deputy observed a driver with a suspended license operating a motor vehicle. The deputy’s report was sent to the prosecuting attorney’s office for the driver for driving with a suspended license – third degree and operating a vehicle without an ignition interlock, and for the owner of the vehicle for allowing an unauthorized person to drive.
