Trike theft, tardy tags, feuding friends | San Juan County Sheriff’s Log

The San Juan County Sheriff’s Office responded to the following calls.

July 3

• On two separate occasions, San Juan County deputies on marine patrol checked vessels tied up to the Westsound County Dock that displayed expired registration decals and mailed citations to the owners.

• An Orcas deputy followed up on a report of an order violation, investigated the situation, and determined there was no violation. The incident was documented, however.

• A Lopez deputy responded to a report of an animal bite that occurred in the Washington State Ferries lanes in Anacortes.

• Lopez deputies responded to a burglary. The individual, a local man, was apprehended on the scene after it was confirmed he did not have permission to be on the property. He was cited for trespassing and driving with a suspended license.

• San Juan deputies responded to a report of a motorcycle collision. The rider sustained serious injuries and was flown off-island for medical treatment.

July 4

• A Lopez deputy stopped the driver of a vehicle on Fisherman Bay Road and issued them a citation for speeding, 45 MPH in a posted 25 MPH zone.

• Deputies responded to a collision in Friday Harbor that produced minor property damage and no apparent injuries. A collision report was completed and deputies facilitated an information exchange between parties. There was no evidence of intoxication.

• A Lopez man was contacted for creating a hazard as he attempted to direct post-parade traffic. He was moved along and a report was sent to the appropriate behavioral health agency.

• Lopez deputies were dispatched to a report of weapon noise on private property. No crime was committed.

• A deputy stopped the driver of a vehicle at the intersection of Fisherman Bay Road and Navarre Lane and cited them for speeding, 45 MPH in a 25 MPH zone.

• Lopez deputies responded to the report of a domestic incident. Once on the scene, deputies determined the conflict did not amount to any criminal law violations, and both parties agreed to separate for the evening.

July 5

• Deputies on Orcas responded to a possible domestic Incident near the Rosario area. After an investigation was completed, it was found that it was a verbal argument between a couple.

• A San Juan deputy was dispatched to a reported order violation. Once on the scene, the deputy found the person gone but evidence they had been there. The incident was referred to the prosecuting attorney’s office for charges.

• A San Juan deputy took custody of suspected drugs located by a local business. Since no owner information was available, the bag of suspicious white powder was placed into evidence for destruction.

July 6

• Deputies were dispatched to a traffic accident in Friday Harbor and located a vehicle that had run into a parked vehicle.

• A deputy on Orcas responded to a report of found property. Since the deputy was unable to locate the owner, the property was booked into evidence.

• Deputies from Orcas responded to a single-vehicle accident with injury on Shaw Island. The driver, the only occupant, was flown off the island for a possible neck injury. The deputies were granted a warrant for blood work to determine a possible DUI. The case is ongoing.

July 7

• Deputies were contacted about an assault in the Friday Harbor area. The caller provided a statement saying he had been punched by a friend.

• A Lopez resident reported credit card fraud to the Sheriff’s office.

• A deputy took a report of a theft of a tricycle on San Juan.

• On Orcas, a deputy issued a citation for abandoning a vehicle at a local towing establishment.

• A deputy assisted a local towing company in moving a plane that went off the runway at the Eastsound Airport after the landing gear collapsed. The deputy filed a report and FAA and NTSB were notified.

July 8

• A deputy on San Juan received a report of a theft from a local business, contacted the juvenile suspected, and sent a report to the prosecutor’s office for charging.

July 9

• Deputies responded to a report of an assault in the woods on San Juan. The involved individuals admitted to fighting; one person hit the other with a small piece of lumber, and they then got pushed to the ground. Neither party wished to pursue the matter criminally.

• On San Juan, a driver was stopped for a defective brake light, an expired vehicle registration, and for failing to transfer a title within 45 days. Deputies issued the driver a citation for not having insurance. The driver was also given multiple warnings.
