Unidentified female body recovered on Lopez

A group of kayakers reported a deceased person on the south shore of Lopez Island between Ice Berg Point and Watmough Bay on Saturday, May 7. The San Juan County Sheriff's Office utilized the Sheriff's boats Guardian and Intrepid to make the recovery. At this time all that is known is the victim is a Caucasian female of unknown age and origin. As of this press release, it is unknown if foul play was involved. The remains were sent to the Snohomish County Medical Examiner's office for an autopsy to be performed.
