The Annual Tree Lighting ceremony and Shop the Rock The Orcas Island Chamber of Commerce, brings seasonal music by the Orcas Island Community Band, cider and cookies provided by chamber member businesses and a visit by Santa with toys for the kids to the Eastsound Village Green. Festivities start at 4:45 p.m. and culminate with tree lighting at approximately 5:15 p.m. Many Eastsound business will remain open until 7 p.m. on this evening.

Quilt Show The work of Island quilters will grace the walls of Orcas Center over the holiday season. The large exhibit, featuring roughly 20 participants, will continue throughout December. It will open Friday, Dec. 5, with a reception in the Madrona Room beginning at 5:30 p.m.

“Olga Symphony and Friends” This is an Orcas holiday tradition with our very own irresistible counter-culture musical group and some of their best, oldest and newest musical friends. 7:30 p.m. at Orcas Center. Tickets are $5.

American Legion Auxiliary Holiday Bazaar Local vendors will be selling holiday gifts and crafts at this annual event at the American Legion Post Home. Enjoy a warm bowl of split pea or vegetable soup and a roll for under $5 and gingerbread with whipped cream for $1. Raffle winners of the Christmas, Kitchen and Beauty Bath Gift Baskets will be announced. The event supports local Orcas scholarship funds and veterans at hospitals throughout Wash. State. 376-4987.

Friends of the Library Holiday Tea. Enjoy delicious cookies, chocolates and other sweets while you sip your tea at the Orcas Island Public Library. Allow yourself to fill with the spirit of the season as you listen to holiday favorites performed by local musicians. Actors Theater of Orcas Island Actors Theater presents their third annual Off Limits Improvisational Theater at 7:30 pm at the Grange. Tickets available at Darvill’s Bookstore and at the door.

Artisan’s Faire at Odd Fellows Hall The 19th annual Artisan’s Faire will feature more than 30 local artisans and vendors selling crafts and food. Anthony’s Bistro will be providing a breakfast, lunch and dinner menu downstairs in the Odd Fellows Kitchen. Saturday 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Sunday 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Proceeds after expenses will be donated to the Artists in the School Program in the elementary and middle schools. Admission to the event is free.

Orcas Island Historical Museum
Seats are still available to join Orcas Island Historical Museum members at their Annual Membership Dinner Buffet at Camp Orkila Lodge (Norman Hall). Doors open for cash bar at 5 PM. The $25 multi-course prime rib buffet includes salmon and vegetarian entrees, a free Museum Crazy Quilt raffle ticket, and free movie popcorn during the film program. Reservations are required, and museum membership is invited. Call the museum at 376-4849 with your reservation.

Orcas Island Marine Science Lecture Series “Elephant Seals: Divers of the Deep” with Dr. Joe Gaydos. Dr. Gaydos will give a free public lecture on elephant seals with free dinner provided by Camp Orkila. The event will take place at 5:30 pm at the Camp Orkila Larry Norman Lodge.

Orcas Garden Club celebrates 50 years The garden club will celebrate at 10:30 am with a gala program and tea in the Madrona Room at the Orcas Center. All current members and their guests are encouraged to attend.

Chimera Gallery in Lopez Plaza hosts its annual Holiday Show, featuring new work by all the cooperative’s members, November 15 through December 31. Gallery hours for November and December are Friday and Saturday 10 – 5 and Sunday 10 – 3.
