Part-time Orcas resident Matt Zybas has been recognized as the project manager of the year by the Washington State Association of County Engineers. Zybas is currently the Snohomish County Solid Waste director. Zybas was nominated by his county colleagues for his “outstanding leadership and service” in the emergency response and debris removal following the state route 530 landslide near Oso, Wash.

Matt used to work for San Juan County as the solid waste director, planning director and stormwater utility manager. His wife Laura lives on Orcas full-time.
