David Charles Stump | Passages

February 6, 1943 – February 1, 2025

David Charles Stump passed peacefully and went home to be with his Lord on February 1, 2025 after a 7-month battle with brain cancer. Dave, as he was known, is survived by his wife Shirley Stump, sons David Jr. and Gary, and daughter Leslie Vanderpool, as well as siblings Jim Stump, Don Stump, Priscilla Judge, Mary Lou Elliott, Stump and Zona Wilson.

Born in Los Angeles, California, Dave grew up in Pile Bay, Alaska as the oldest of seven children in the missionary family of his parents Don and Lorene Stump. He was a multi-sport athlete and Homecoming King at King’s Garden High School and obtained degrees in Education from Seattle Pacific University. Dave taught for over 40 years in numerous districts and private schools (including his alma mater, King’s Garden) across the Puget Sound area.

Dave had a great and abiding love for his Savior, attending several churches over the years in western Washington, and served as an ordained deacon in the Presbyterian church. He loved to travel and experience significant historic sites around the US and across Europe with his wife Shirley as well as enjoying winter retreat each year in Kaanapali, Maui.

With a smile for everyone, a constantly positive attitude on everything and an infectious laugh, Dave was an inspiring husband, father, teacher, deacon, and friend. He’ll be remembered for his unconditional love for his family and friends, and the extraordinary life he lived.

A memorial service to celebrate Dave’s life is scheduled for Saturday, March 1 at 10 a.m. at Hope Presbyterian Church located at 10936 NE 24th Street, Bellevue, Washington 98004.
