Dennis John Bredahl passed away unexpectedly while helping a neighbor on his beloved Orcas Island. He is survived by his son Thomas (Heather), his first grandchild Desmond, mother Florence (Chuck), father Myron (Gayla), sisters Denise and Donna (Mike), four nieces, two great-nieces, and one great-nephew. Chosen family members Ellen Wickham and Lori Wix, as well as many other extended family and friends, also mourn his loss. Born in Laredo, Texas, Dennis moved with the family to Federal Way, Washington, then Puyallup. He graduated from Rogers High School where, in addition to being known for his smile and wit, Den was an outstanding athlete; excelling particularly in football and track, at one time he held the state record in four events. He attended the University of Washington, where he lettered in track and participated at Nationals for the mile relay. He also attended Western and Central Washington Universities before moving to Orcas Island and finding his calling as a craftsman builder. The Island was his heartfelt home, and he was soon part of the fabric of the community. Besides leaving his mark on many projects around the Island, he built a timber frame home that will be a legacy as his son’s family takes up residence there. Donations can be made to the Orcas Island Food Bank. Memorial services will be scheduled after the New Year. Notice will follow.
