Dr. Ronald Mark Schuler | Passages

Dr. Ronald Mark Schuler passed away on Tuesday, Sept. 6, 2022, in Long Beach, Washington with his wife, Maggie at his side. He was born April 25, 1940 to Arnold and Bernadine (Pritzl) Schuler in Manitowoc, Wisconsin.

Ron graduated from St. Gregory’s in St. Nazianz, Wisconsin in 1958 and went on to become a veterinarian. In the early 1960s he enlisted in the Army Reserves and served for six years. In 1964 he married Janet Shimon of Manitowoc. They adopted two girls, Michelle and Linette. After Janet’s passing, Ron married Margaret Savage Everly in 1985 and welcomed his stepson Zak into the family. In 1990 they moved to Orcas Island, Washington where he practiced veterinary medicine until his retirement in 2017. Ron then moved to Long Beach, Washington where he enjoyed sitting on the deck reading, hiking the beach and looking out over Willapa Bay- watching wildlife for hours.

Ron will be remembered as a loving husband and father. He always made time to help with homework or read a Dr. Suess book, which were his favorites. Ron was known as “Mister Rogers” because of his calm, go-with-the-flow attitude. He took his family on many vacations and somehow always managed to sneak something educational into the adventure. Ron enjoyed woodworking and was always making toys for his children or something for the house. He also enjoyed card club get-togethers with his long-time high school friends. Ron enjoyed traveling with his wife, Maggie and together they made several trips to Africa and Europe, Canada, and Hawaii. They also traveled extensively in the U.S. showing their llamas at different competitions. They always came back with funny stories about their travels.

Ron is survived by his wife of thirty-seven years, Maggie, his daughter, Linette (Richard) Radtke, his stepson, Zak Everly, fiancé Joy Jech and sons Mountain and Culain, grandchildren, Anthony (Halee) Presutti, Lauren, Allyssa, and Jessica Radtke, great-grandchildren Jaxson, Luna, and Sophia; sisters Diane (Hugh) Waite, Jean (Jerry) Walsh, Janet (Bill) Sheehy, Chuck (Sharon)Schuler; sisters-in-law Mary Savage and Monica (Savage) Woods, and nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his first wife, Janet Schuler, daughter Michelle Schuler, parents, Arnold and Bernadine Schuler, brothers-in-law, Jerry Walsh and Hugh Waite, and mother-in-law, Barbara Savage.

Dad, we will miss your solid presence, caring manner, and even your “dad sayings” like “things are tough all over” and “feet on the floor” when we did not want to get up for school. Through all the tough times you were there, never giving up and always moving forward. You taught us to work hard and to be good people. You will live forever in us and be missed every day. But like you so lovingly taught us, we will keep going.

In memory of Dr. Schuler, take your dog for an extra walk, give your cat a special treat or sit out in the field with your horse. Make sure your pets are loved and well cared for.

In lieu of flowers, please donate to your local animal shelter.
