Elaine Granville of Anacortes, Washington passed quietly on Tuesday, March 13, 2018. She was born on September 6, 1921 in North Fond du Lac, Wisconsin, the eldest of two daughters of Frederick John Elsner and Adella Lydia (Roth) Elsner. She attended the Saint Paul Lutheran School and graduated from Winnebago Lutheran Academy in 1939. She received a nursing degree in 1942 from the Evangelical Deaconess Hospital in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Elaine worked as a surgical nurse then as an Industrial Nurse at Allis Chalmers Supercharger Plant before joining the U.S. Navy Nurse Corps Reserve. She was stationed at the Great Lakes Naval Hospital, then transferred to the Naval Academy Hospital in Annapolis with the rank of Lieutenant JG in the Naval Reserve.
Elaine married her husband, Ensign Earnest B. Granville at the Naval Academy Chapel on June 7, 1945.
She continued her nursing career in Geriatric Nursing in Dallas, Texas; then worked in Denver at Porter Hospital in Pediatrics for 12 years. She became Director of Nursing at the Aspen Siesta Nursing Home before moving to Orcas Island in 1981.
Elaine was very active in the Anacortes Lutheran Church, Rosario Home Owners Association, Garden Club, Medical Guild and the Orcas Island Yacht Club. Her passions were art, singing, cooking and gardening.
Elaine was predeceased by her parents; sister and brother-in-law: Marjean & Leonard “Steve” Urban;
son-in-law: Lee Jousma. She is survived by her husband of 72 years, Earnest; daughter, Susan Elaine Jousma; son and daughter-n-law, James Earnest and Lee Ann Granville; three grandsons: Michael Jousma, Christopher and Andrew Granville; three great-grandsons: Brendon, Kayden and Quincy Granville.
Her interment is at the Grand View Cemetery in Anacortes. A Memorial Celebration will be announced. Memorials in her name are suggested to be forwarded to the Anacortes Lutheran Church.
