1934-2022
Erling Paul Manley was born in Seattle, Washington on May 24, 1934, the son of Danish immigrants. He died on April 20, 2022. He married Marion Rorabeck on his 19th birthday in 1953 and graduated from electronics school in Pocatello, ID in 1956 with a license in radio-telephone operation. He then was employed at KVOS TV on Mt. Constitution in 1956. He was also instrumental in the construction of multiple towers and buildings in what became Mt. Constitution Sites.
He is survived by wife Andrea Davis and her son Drake, sister Rita and her husband Dr. Ralph Roberts, of Rio Dell, CA; sister-in-law Esther and her husband Clinton Cummings of Melstone, MT; daughter Margie Pearce and her husband Mike, of Grand Terrace, CA; daughter Karen Engle and her husband Jim, of Deer Park, WA; daughter Jeanne Speers of Orcas Island; son Dr. Christian Manley and his wife Brenda, of Kirkland, WA; grandchildren Erin, Matthew, Alex, Brian, Adrian, Robbie, Ellie, Brooke, and Christian; six nieces and one nephew.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Carl and Else Manley, wife Marion, second wife Juanita and a granddaughter Krista.
When he wasn’t working on the mountain, Erling could be found hiking the many trails in Moran State Park. He was a generous, loved and respected person and he will be greatly missed.
Graveside service will be held on May 21 at 3 p.m. at the Olga-Doe Bay Cemetery, followed by family and friends gathering at the Lower Tavern from 4:30-6:30 p.m. Eastsound, Washington. Donations for his memorial can be made to “Friends of Moran.”
