Henry Delbert Hoffman was born on Sept. 28, 1929 in Seattle, Wash., the only child of Delbert and Helen (Coleman) Hoffman of Shaw Island.
When he was two, his family returned to their home on Hix Bay where Henry spent most of his life until 2010, except for time he served in the U.S. Army and his college years at Capital University in Columbus, Ohio, where he graduated in 1962 with a B.S. Degree in Business Administration. His time at college also introduced him to his wife of 51 years, Marlyn, who survives him at their home in Anacortes, Wash. Other survivors include their very much loved children, Elizabeth Larsen (Monte) of Camano Island; Michael Hoffman (Cori) of Lopez Island; and Kathy Foley (Neal) of Montville, Maine; and 12 treasured grandchildren: Chris, James, Ian, Kaelie, Ailish, Samuel, Aine, Oona, Susanna, Orla, Niamh, and Timothy. Henry was a member of Shaw Island Christian Fellowship and Summit Park Bible Church in Anacortes.
He died at home on Monday, July 25, 2011 of pancreatic cancer and leaves us with a legacy of one who possessed wonderful smiles, the love of storytelling, a generous heart and a humble faith in God.
Henry will be laid to rest at a family graveside service on his beloved Shaw Island on Saturday, Aug. 6. at 1:30 p.m., to be followed by a gathering of friends and neighbors at the Shaw Island Community Center from 2-3 p.m. Memorials may be given to Operation Nightwatch (serving Seattle’s homeless) or Hospice of the Northwest. Henry’s family greatly appreciates the loving care and support he received from his caregivers, neighbors, and hospice. Arrangements are in the care of Evans Funeral Chapel and Crematory, Inc., Anacortes, WA and the San Juan Islands.
