March 16, 1943 – April 14, 2018
John William George died in his sleep on April 14, 2018, at age 75 in Bellingham. John was born on March 16, 1943, in Ione, Washington. to John E. George Jr. and Mary Helen (Easto) George.
John grew up in Pullman, spending summers on his paternal grandparent’s (John and Rose George) dairy in Metaline Falls, Washington, driving the tractor, making hay, herding cows with their dog tags and rafting on the pond. His maternal grandfather (William Easto) was happy to gain a chauffeur when John became a licensed driver, and John’s dog Teddy rode shotgun. “Little John” grew to 6 feet, 4 inches, and became the tallest John George in the family.
John graduated from PHS (’61) and WSU (’65), then from UW medical school. He did his residency with the U.S. Army in Texas and Virginia. Dr. George practiced obstetrics and gynecology in Clarkston, Seattle, Bellevue and Edmonds.
John and his wife Harriet Fyfe loved their retirement on karma-rich Orcas Island in the San Juan archipelago. He was interested in holistic medicine, enjoyed walking in the woods and frequented favorite places in the community.
John is survived by his wife Harriet and her three children Thomas, Mary and James; sister Rosemary George; niece September; and grandnieces Hayden and Autumn; his former wife Maureen McGrath George and their three children John Christopher George, Stephanie George Caruso and Jennifer George Cameron; six grandchildren Jeffrey, Lauren, Ryan, Lindsey Caruso and Sierra and Jack Cameron; Uncle Richard L. “Sonny” Stout; cousins Randy, Barbara, Carter, Derek and Carolyn.
