Judi Resch was born June 17, 1943, in Monterey, California to Jack Smith and Norma Smith. When Judi was still young, Norma remarried Ira MacPherson Provart. Mack, as he was known, raised Judi and her siblings. Judi attended school at Eureka High School and College of the Redwoods.
Judi left this world on Oct. 27, 2017, surrounded by her children. She was 74 years old.
Judi raised her six children in Eureka, California, until 1978, when she packed them up and moved to Orcas Island, Washington in the beautiful San Juan Islands. She went to work for Carmac and met many wonderful people during her years on Orcas (“The Rock”). Judi remarried in 1980 to Richard Resch, and two years later, they were off to Alaska.
While in Alaska, Judi worked for Alaska Offshore and Unitech of Alaska. Judi again met and made many wonderful friends and her “Alaska Legion” was The Trophy Lounge, where she made a lifelong friend and football rival (Broncos fan) Bobby DeMalle. After 10 years in Alaska, Judi relocated back to The Rock and went to work for Opalco, until her retirement.
Of course, anyone who knew Judi knows she never truly retired though. She loved to keep busy working, volunteering, and simply helping anyone who needed it. Judi was very involved in the American Legion with bookkeeping, various Veteran Events, Pancake breakfasts, Bingo nights, Fishing Derbies, Sons of the American Legion Scholarships, and much more, including just being involved with many local community events – and even an occasional appearance in Eastsound’s annual Fourth of July Parade.
Judi adored her children and grandchildren; time with them was her favorite. Whether on the island, Crescent Bar, Vegas, or at one of her children’s homes, Judi was most happy just being together. Judi also adored all of her children’s friends, always welcoming them to her home, and treating them like they were her own. She was truly a (second) Mom to many of her “darlings” over the years.
Judi is survived by her children: James White and wife Debra (DJ) of Wasilla, Alaska, Kelli Landry and her partner Darcy Harwood of Portland, Oregon, Ken Linderman and his partner Cammy Kuntz of Lake Chelan, Washington, Leah Hornbrook of Fairbanks, Alaska, Kim Fitka and her partner Gary McDonald of Anchorage, Alaska and Sean Hornbrook and his wife Jessica of Kirkland, Washington. Judi leaves her 10 grandchildren, Justin White of Erie, Pennsylvania, Nathen White of Charlotte, North Carolina, Brittany White of Perkinston, Mississippi, Brennan Linderman of Renton, Washington, Rachel Linderman of East Wenatchee, Washington, Jared Anderson and Ronnie Hodges of Fairbanks, Alaska, Joseph Fitka and Hunter McDonald of Anchorage, Alaska, and Riley Harwood of Portland, Oregon. Judi also leaves five great grandchildren, Michael, Maria, Riece, of Erie, Pennsylvania, and Shane and Letti Pearl White of Perkinston, Mississippi, her niece Nikki Briggs of Tumwater, Washington, and of course her beloved dog, Cassie.
Judi was preceded in death by her parents, Mack and Norma Provart, her father, Jack Smith, and sister, Randee Lozensky.
There will be a celebration of life at the American Legion Post 93 in Eastsound, Washington, for family and friends in memory of Judi on Saturday, Dec. 16 at 1 p.m.
The family requests that any memorial contributions be made on Judi’s behalf to the Orcas Animal Protection Society and the Steve Resch Memorial Scholarship Fund.
