Judith Willis Slater, 74, lost her long and courageous battle with cancer on Dec. 20, 2017, at her family home in Olga.
Judy was born in Seattle, Washington on December 27, 1942, the fourth of five children to Culver and Lucile Willis. She graduated from Orcas High School in 1961 and married for the first time in 1962. She had three sons: Bob, Paul and Roy. A daughter, Patricia, was born to her second marriage, but lost to Leukemia at one year old. Eventually, Judy moved back home to Orcas where she opened her upholstery business, Furniture Revived. She also served her community by volunteering as a caretaker for the Olga Cemetery for many years. One of the greatest joys of her life was reuniting with her sons after twenty years apart.
Judy was known for her quality workmanship and her meticulous attention to detail, as well as her quiet and kind personality. She is literally a part of the fabric of our community. She leaves a hole in our hearts, but she is now at peace.
Judy is survived by her sons: Bob (Jennifer) Jones, Paul (Vicki) Jones and Roy (Delight) Jones; grandchildren: Bradley, Matthew, Grace, Alexis, Grant, Greg and Nathaniel; sisters: Elizabeth (Betty) Marcum and Dorothy Lundquist; brother, John Willis; nieces: Gail (Mike) Mikuchonis and Diane (Clint) Stinnett; and nephews: Gary (Bonnie) Lundquist and Dustin Fox. She was preceded in death by her daughter, Patricia Cary, and her sister, Mary Fox.
Services will be held at a later date under the care of Evans Funeral Home. Memorials can be made to Olga Community Club or Orcas Island Historical Society.
Arrangements are in the care of Evans Funeral Chapel of Anacortes, WA. To share a memory of Judith, please sign the online guest register at www.evanschapel.com
