LeOra Melvin-Eastman Dempsey | Passages

September 22, 1946 – December 30, 2024

It’s with heavy hearts that my sisters and I share with you the loss of our Mom LeOra Dempsey. Mom passed on December 30, 2024 very peacefully after a long battle with a lung disease.

Mom spent the first part of her life in Sedro-Woolley, moving to Orcas Island when she was 9. She lived on Orcas Island until the early 1990’s. Raising a family, and starting her career in the health care industry. Our Mom worked many years as one of the Islands EMTs, later as a paramedic and working at the health clinic. After moving from Orcas Island Mom furthered her career and became a nurse.

Mom Has 3 daughters Michele Stonecipher (Peter Wimmer), Julie (Mike) Conkel, Heather (Jason) Pletschett, 5 grand children Brianna (Stonecipher) Wood, Robert Stonecipher, Jacob and Hailee Pletschett, Amelia Conkel and 2 great-grandchildren Scarlett and Violet Wood. Step-daughter Heather Dempsey and granddaughters Natasha Dempsey and Kiaya Felton.

Mom is survived by her sister Martha (Glen) Hallam and brother Patrick Melvin, and was preceded in death by her parents John and LeOra Melvin and brother Larry Melvin.

Mom’s final resting place will be the Olga cemetery with her parents and brother.

A celebration of life will be held on April 12th, 2025 at the Olga Community Center.
