Lucy Margaret Lundquist of Freeland died peacefully at the home she shared with her daughter on Tuesday, February 24, 2009.
A loving mother, sister, grandmother, great-grandmother, great-great- grandmother, and friend to many, she will be greatly missed.
Lucy was born in Tacoma on May 24, 1906 to Arthur Dennis and Carrie Herrick. She was raised on Fox Island and graduated from Stadium High School. Lucy attended Ellensburg Normal School and was awarded a lifetime teaching certificate.
Lucy loved teaching. She is remembered by many of her students and their parents because of her ability to reach out to each student individually. Her teaching career began in Seattle at T. T. Minor before she was married.
After raising her family, she returned to the profession in 1956. In Langley, she taught 7th and 8th grade, imparting both wisdom and knowledge to her students.
Lucy was a strong Christian. She enjoyed her Bible Study with the “Old Dollies” and shared her faith with her family and friends. She enjoyed music, needlepoint and knitting. Lucy loved books and was an avid reader. She had a contagious sense of humor and was devoted to her family.
She is survived by her sons, Gerry Lundquist of Coeur d’ Alene, Idaho and David Lundquist of Coupeville, as well as by her daughter, Margaret Turner of Freeland, and daughter-in-law Dorothy Lundquist of Orcas Island. She is also survived by four grandsons, Gary Lundquist, Earl Lundquist, Brian Lundquist and Joseph Turner. Lucy also had twelve great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband Lloyd Lundquist, sons Dennis and Irving Lundquist and grandson Erik Lundquist.
