Michael Mathew Malaspina, age 74, passed away on March 22, 2019, peacefully at home on Orcas Island.
Mike was born March 29, 1944, in Seattle, Washington to Mike and Rita Malaspina. He graduated from Mercer Island High School in 1962. He married the love of his life Jill Malaspina in 1965.
In 1966 he was drafted into the Marine Corps and stationed at Camp Lejeune in Jacksonville, North Carolina. After serving, they moved back to the Seattle area, where he worked construction with his brother John. They started their family in Seattle, and in 1975 Mike and Jill saw a great opportunity to raise Mike, Jr. and Tony on Waldron Island. Once the boys started high school, they moved to Orcas Island and made it their forever home.
Mike enjoyed running his sawmill, fishing, hunting, playing poker and spending time with his family and friends. He spent 10 years in a loving relationship with Carol Lee. Mike will be remembered for his witty sense of humor, sincere desire to help everyone and his charismatic, honest, affectionate soul.
In addition to his parents, Mike was preceded in death by his wife Jill, brother John and sister Jo.
He is survived by his son Mike, Jr (Nuna), granddaughter Tina Mae; son Tony (Angela), granddaughter; Nicoya Willard (Levi), great-granddaughter Adilee; granddaughter Mikayla and grandson Michael, along with many relatives and close friends.
A celebration of his life will be arranged by his family on Orcas Island in the coming months. In lieu of flowers please donate to any charity you feel worthy in memory of Mike Malaspina.
