Patrick Greaney

Patrick Archille Greaney, 57, of Lopez Island died Monday, Oct. 12, 2009 at his home on Lopez Island. Patrick was born on Oct. 25, 1951 in Port Jefferson, Long Island, New York, the son of Patrick and Rosalie (Drapeau) Greaney. Patrick graduated from Woodstock High School in Vermont and attended college at the University of Massachusetts Amherst where he studied Natural Resources. Being an adventurer at heart, in 1979 Patrick packed up and hitchhiked across the United States to the west coast where he worked as a commercial fisherman and as a residential and commercial painter. He loved the Pacific Northwest, eventually making Orcas Island his first home, and then later moving to Lopez Island. Inheriting the family trait, the joy of gardening, Patrick not only enjoyed cultivating green things, but also cultivating a group of wonderful, supportive friends with whom he had many adventures and lots of laughs, sharing his tremendous sense of humor, quick wit, sarcasm, intelligence, and cleverness. He was an avid reader, always seeking and sharing new information and knowledge with others. But most important of all, was his relationship with his partner, Trish and her girls, Rose and Heather. Over the years, they were his greatest source of pride, joy, and contentment. He was truly loved and will be greatly missed. Patrick was preceded in death by his parents, his brother, Peter, and his sister, Margaret. He is survived by his life partner, Trish Wright and her daughters, Heather of San Diego, Calif. and Rose and her son, Isaiah, of Murrieta, Calif; sisters, Michelle of Cresco, Pa., Anne of Hartland, Vt., and Joan of Bellingham, Wash; and nieces, Christa of Essex Junction, Vt., Julianna of Millcreek, Pa., and Katherine of Newfoundland, Pa. Graveside services and interment was held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, October 17, 2009 at Lopez Union Cemetery with Pastor Morris Dalton officiating. Arrangements are in the care of Evans Funeral Chapel & Crematory, Inc., Anacortes, Wash. and the San Juan Islands.
