Susan E. Watkin of Olga, Wash., peacefully passed away June 12, 2015, after a swift and brave battle with cancer, surrounded by her loved ones. Susan was born December 2, 1940, to Norman and Marion White in Omaha, Neb. Susan was raised in Las Vegas, Nev., growing up exploring the desert, horseback riding and developing her love of art. Susan moved to Orcas Island in 1975 where she worked at Templin’s Market, owned and operated the Cedar Closet, and worked at the Olga Café. Susan pursued her love of art in the mediums of ceramics, pencil, charcoals and watercolor paint. She was also an avid gardener and loved to travel. Susan’s paintings have been seen in the Orcas Island Artworks Cooperative Gallery, and on display in many places on Orcas Island. Susan assisted in hosting art shows at the Orcas Center and the Senior Center. Susan was a member of the Palettes painting group and Grandmothers Club. Susan is survived by her partner of 26 years, Tim Ordwing; daughter, Elizabeth Clark Marshall of Snohomish; grandchildren, Warren and Amelia Marshall; sister, Jan Preusch of Everett and Aunt Patricia Trebuchon of Yerington, Nev. A memorial reception will be held on July 11, 2015, 2 to 4 p.m. at the Orcas Island Senior Center, Eastsound, Wash.
