Virginia Lucile (Ginny Lu) Wood | Passages

Virginia Lucile Wood (November 22, 1952 – January 5, 2018) “Ginny,” “Ginny Lu,” or “Lu” to her family and friends passed away peacefully in her Orcas Island (part of San Juan Islands, WA) home after a strenuous and determined five-year battle with cardiovascular disease.

Ginny was a genuine, personable, extroverted, dynamic, energetic, charismatic, community and ocean activist (always had a blue marble to give you!) with a unique ability to light up any room or occasion.

Ginny Lu was born and raised in Los Angeles, a graduate of the University of Southern California, later developed a life and career in television production while living in Del Mar, California but her real home was Orcas Island. Her successful and eclectic “Wood’s Cove” gift shop located in the center of Eastsound was a fixture, like her, for over 25 years.

“Lu” was loved by anyone and everyone that had the chance to be in her company. If you ever needed a friend, she would have been the first by your side, even in your toughest times.

Her two biggest loves were Orcas Island and the ocean. She would appreciate donations in her memory to be made to either the Orcas Island Community Foundation (www.oicf.us and click on “Make a Donation,” then select the “OICF Ginny Lu Wood Memorial” fund) or the Wild Dolphin Project (wilddolphinproject.org).

There will be a celebration of her life on Saturday, April 7 at 1 p.m. It will take place at the Odd Fellows Hall in Eastsound on Orcas Island. Another celebration in Del Mar will be held at a future time still to be determined. Stories and photos will be welcome!
