Orcas Island High School golfers Maia and Zoe Lewis-Shunk represented the team at the Washington State Golf Championships in Richland on May 22 and 23.
“These girls played so very well all season in the rain and wind qualifying to state in some of the worst conditions. Ever,” said Golf Coach Bobby Olmsted. “They played their hearts outs in the heat and sun, but only made it through the first round.”
To proceed beyond the first round, the competitors had to score 100 or lower. Zoe barely missed the cut-off with a 101 and Maia 105.
“That attitude will transcend into some amazing years ahead,” said Olmsted. “I am so very proud to have had the opportunity to coach these young ladies the past couple of years.”
