Over the course of the season, the Lady Lobos have made great strides with their confidence and in becoming far more aggressive with their scoring but despite a powerful effort to move the ball down the court the Lummi team was consistently better under the basket. Scoring with their chip shots and their ability to drive the ball down the court with uninterrupted assists and spot-on tosses into the basket, the Lummi team took their toll on the scoreboard.
The Lady Lobos, however, answered numerous times with assaults into their own territory. Sarah Stanley took it in as point guard and Brooke Schober was relentless in her drives down the court. Malisha Burson was smoking on the rebound and Moira Crawford came in and played stunning defense, covering the Lummi team and forcing turnovers, while Lexy Ogden and Marina Steinbrueck created constant mayhem defensively for the Lady Blackhawks. Fouls were rampant. By the start of the fourth quarter the Lummi team had a fat lead: 59-19. They had a taller and more seasoned team, but the Lady Lobos seemed indefatiguable; Ruthie DeGraaf’s relentless, in-your-face defense, coupled with Sarah’s speedy breaks down the court helped the Ladies stay in points and Moira Crawford’s assists enabled the scorers to shoot it in. The Lummi team’s greater ease with their passing plays in their key enabled them to set up their key shooters, and Lummi had a walloping run on three-pointers, making 5/7 of these shots. The Lopez team fell, but their hard work and heart on the court was apparent and energizing to watch.
