The Lady Vikings got off to a slow start but then blew the game open wide to take a 13-2 win at Concrete on Tuesday, April 1.
In the second inning, the bottom of the batting order got on base and Katie Hendrick opened the scoring with an RBI single which proved to be the first of seven Viking runs scored in the second. Senior Renae Harvey stepped up to the plate with the bases loaded. With a 1-2 count against her, Harvey blasted a three run triple. Her RBI total for the day was four.
Cara Peacock smashed a two run double later in the game, capping a three-for-three game at the plate.
On defense, freshmen pitcher Adria Garcia again showed a growing confidence on the mound. Garcia threw eight strikeouts over five innings. She was also two-for-two at the plate, showing an effectiveness with the bat as well.
“This was an important in league win for us,” said Coach Scott Harris. “Our team is developing a cohesive rhythm that is essential as we enter our league play. It was nice to see Harvey and Peacock take command at the plate.”
