The Lady Vikings hosted the Wolverines at the Orcas High School Gym on Dec. 10. Friday Harbor ran a fast-paced game, resulting in a close win for the Wolverines.
At half-time the score was 22 to 12. The Lady Vikings came out in the third quarter and soon the Vikings were within three points and striking distance. At the end of the third quarter the score was 30 to 33. At that point, Orcas was in foul trouble and couldn’t seem to get an edge again.
“Aliviah Garcia came off the bench to show an awesome, fiery spirit,” said coach Tim Hance. He named her “Player of the Game.”
Bella Nigretto had 11 points, Lana Bronn had 9, Shelbi Rogers and Aliviah Garcia finished with 6 each, Alena Janssen had three and Alicia Susol has 2. The ending score was 44-37.
The Lady Viking JV team also lost to Friday Harbor in a well fought battle. Orcas jumped out to the lead 6 to nothing. t the end of the first quarter Orcas was up 8 to 6. At the half the score was 14 to 18, Friday Harbor. Orcas never regained the lead again.
“We played a good second half with Hannah Brunner-Gaydos and Kirsten Fowler stepping up to the plate but it wasn’t enough,” Hance said.
Kilee Rogers had 13 points, Hannah Brunner Gaydos with 7, Kirsten Fowler with 5, Daria Stankevich had 3 and Soren Sweet with 1. Ending score was 39-29.
