Orcas came out on top in the first game of district playoffs on May 18 in Sedro-Wooley against Darrington as we battled into the seventh inning and came from behind to win and advance to the final game against Friday Harbor.
Hazel Moe pitched a great game, and Portia White came in relief and pitched 1.2 innings to help keep us close. We got through a couple of errors, but came back into the game and won by Olivia Brunner-Gaydos scoring on a passed ball.
Friday Harbor was able to get some momentum early in the game with a couple of home runs, but we had bases loaded and couldn’t capitalize when we needed to. We had a great season, and the girls battled to the end, but they couldn’t overcome Friday Harbor’s power during our second game. Pitcher Flora Lister threw a great game, but we couldn’t generate enough offense to stay alive.
We are looking forward to a productive offseason and hope to have a better season next year.
