Neither rain, sleet or late-season snow could come between the Lopez Lobos golf team and the LaConner Braves.
After a morning that began with school delays due to a late-season snow storm on Thursday, March 27 the sun broke through for a beautiful afternoon of golf on the Lopez links.
The LaConner boy’s team won the match 241-271. The Lobos’s Jordan Smith shot a 44, nearly missing becoming the medalist by two strokes. Colton Jardine shot a 50, a new personal best. Kevin Dengler brought in a 56, still one shot off of qualifying for post-season play. Noah Dretske shot 57 and Alex Cook carded 64.
The Lady Lobo’s Randi Ritchie was the girl’s medalist carding a 48. Emily PostvanderBurg was secon with 47, followed closely by Adayla Buchanan and Lisa Vaughn with 52. Relative newcomers to the sport, Tammora Nedorocik and Helen O’Brien carded 61 apiece – one shot short of the 60 needed for post-season play. “They were so close this time, ” said coach Richard Têtu. “I fully expect them to qualify before the season is out.”
The Lobos face a tough traveling schedule for the next few weeks as they travel to Orcas, Highland Christian, LaConner and Friday Harbor before returning home the week of April 17.
