The defending girls’ golf NW 2B League champion Lady Lobos continued their league dominance this season with another League Championship win on May 13. Senior Lisa Vaughn was the medalist with a nine-hole score of 53 followed by senior Randi Ritchie in third place with 56.
Junior Emily PostvanderBurg took fifth, carding a 67. Sophomore Helen O’Brien came in sixth with a score of 71. Senior Adayla Buchanan placed eight with 73 and sophomore Sydney Hoffman was tenth with a score of 83.
Against a tough field, which included members of the defending State Champion boys’ golf team – Highland Christian – the Lobo boys held their own at the League Championships. Jordan Smith had the best score for Lopez, carding a 101 over 18 holes for fifth place. Kevin Dengler was eighth with 107, Alex Cook, ninth with 112, Colton Jardine, 11th with 114, Noah Dretske, 12th with 117 and Isaac Berg, 15th with 146.
Previously, Ritchie, PostvanderBurg and Hoffman had qualified to represent the Lady Lobos at the State Championships at the Quad-District match May 8. No Lopez boys made the cut to represent the team at State.
At the State 1B/2B Championships in Bellingham May 20-21, Ritchie finished in 22nd place. PostVanderBurg and Hoffman finished in the middle of the field.
“Overall, the ladies did better than they believe they did,” said coach Richard Têtu. “Sydney Hoffman had two pars that day; for a first timer, that’s pretty good. Emily PostvanderBurg made some great drives and sand saves. Randi Ritchie had a good match, marred by a couple of tough holes and putts that would not fall.”
