On Tuesday the Lopez Lobos traveled to Highland Christian but lost 35-54 that day.

Coach MR Buffum said, “They jumped on us early in the game and outscored us and we never quite got back in. We worked hard, but that early lead was hard to surmount.” A couple of starters were out for that game with injuries, but the Lobos still fought valiantly despite being far from home.

And back in familiar territory on Friday, the Lobos played a close, white-knuckled game that had the bleachers rattling at the Lopez High School and the crowd on their feet roaring. The Lobos fought with Grace Academy for supremacy and won, 37-35, with two cool-headed foul shots popped in by Shawn Samuel in the last 20 seconds of the game. William Carson and Alex Buffum led in scoring against Grace Academy that Friday night, both with 11 points, and Carson in particular had a superb game both in rebounding for the Lobos as well as putting it into the basket. The Lobos were hot with their three pointers as well. Buffum scored three three-pointers, while Carson and Colton Jardine each had one.

On Saturday, however, the Lobos did not fare as well against the San Juan Wolverines, falling to the Wolverines 51-41.

“Again, we fell behind early in the game and this time we came back, but they continued to press the advantage. We even had the lead in the third quarter, and the Wolverines were only ahead of us by two points in the fourth quarter. We used a full court press against San Juan, but they did the same against us and ended up with the momentum,” said Coach Buffum.

On Tuesday, January 27, the Lobos played Lummi at Lummi and then on Friday, January 30, Lopez will play North Sound Christian at home in the afternoon.
