The Lopez boys’ track team dominated the competition at the NW B Bi-District State Championship qualifying meet in Shorleine on Saturday, May 17 to win by a significant margin. The girls’ team was second to North Sound Christian by 5 points.
Ten boys and eight girls have qualified to advance to the State Meet by placing among the top three finishers in their events. “Eighteen kids is phenomenal from such a small school,” said coach Steve Wilbur. “We took eight last year – which was pretty good.”

Carter’s 400m run and the 4 x 100m relay team’s times are now the fastest times to date in the State 1B division and stand excellent chances of placing first at State.
“Nearly everyone ran a season’s personal best,” said coach Wilbur. Erin Wilbur knocked four seconds off her previous best 300m hurdles time for a berth at state. Other significant person records were Fisher in the 3200m, Lasbo in the 800m and Barr in both 110m and 300m hurdles races. Laura Strom set a personal best in the triple jump for first place at the meet.
PostvanderBerg came back from a leg injury that has kept him from practicing most of the season to place third in the 1600m and Ben Strom, running the 3200m for only the second time this year, placed third for a spot on the State team with a personal best.
The Lopez team travels to Cheney, Wash. for the State 1B Championships on May 23-24.
