Two players represented Lopez Island in the All State B-8 football game played in Odessa, Wash. on June 25.
Colton Jardine and Leland Nopson participated on the West team in this special game. The teams were made up of players from across Washington state.
The West team won, 18-12, in an exciting game, with the outcome determined by the last play.
Both Lopez boys both received special honors in this game: Nopson was voted the Offensive Lineman of the game and Jardine was honored as game Most Valuable Player (MVP).
“Nopson and Jardine both started on offense and defense and were major contributors to the game’s outcome,” said coach Larry Berg. “On defense, both boys were dominant, making spectacular plays and leading the West team. Offensively, Jardine played quarterback, completing many great passes and even running for a touchdown. One of Jardine’s passes went to Nopson for another touchdown. So…. the Lopez Island boys scored two out of the three touchdowns on the winning West squad. It was a great day and both these boys represented our school and community with class and sportsmanship. When you see them this summer congratulate them and give them a thumbs up!” said Berg.
