Sail Orcas and The Orcas High School Sailing Team are hosting the 2009 Northwest Interscholastic Sailing Association Doublehanded District Championships on West Sound April 18 and 19. Twelve teams and 130 sailors from around the Northwest will participate in the two-day championship. The winning team will earn the right to represent NWISA at the High School National Sailing Championships May 9 and 10 in St. Petersburg, Florida.
Camp Four Winds Westward Ho will be the regatta headquarters for the weekend.
“The combination of West Sound and Camp Four Winds makes this one of the best venues in the Northwest for high school sailing,” Orcas team coach Burke Thomas commented. “The Orcas team has been working hard on the water this spring preparing for this championship weekend. Some of the seniors have been sailing on the team for six years now, and this is their last big regatta on West Sound. Their plan is to sail smart and to sail fast.”
