The “Orcas Team Race Regional” was hosted by the Orcas and Friday Harbor High School sailing teams along with the Orcas Island Yacht Club on March 16. The three-on-three team racing took place on the waters of West Sound.
Seven teams from the north region of the Northwest District Interscholastic Sailing Association competed in 27 races on a digital “N” course that was located just off the OIYC pier. This location made for great viewing from the yacht club lawn and quick boat rotations from the dock. Orcas sailing team 2009 alum Sam Parish ran a regatta from the start boat by having multiple races going on at the same time.
The Orcas team went undefeated with an 8-0 record, Sehome grabbed second at 6-2 and Oak Harbor was third with a 5-3 record. Complete scores can be found at https://scores.hssailing.org/s19/orcas-team-race.
Next weekend Orcas sailors travel to the Oak Harbor ranking regatta.
