The Orcas Boys Soccer team lost against North Sound Christian 5-0 in an away game on Sept. 30.
Coach Matt Stolmeier remarked, “This is our second year as a boys’ team; for eight years previously it was co-ed. Last year was an adjustment year for us. Now this team is coming into their own, working on different formations and passing patterns. Everyone cooperates and a plus is that they are all friends, but we weren’t firing on all cylinders that day.”
Coach Stolmeier concedes, “North Sound is a well put-together team. We had just come off two big wins and then we lost big to North Sound. We had a few shots at goal, but definitely our passing game wasn’t clicking that day..”
The Orcas boys soccer team played again on Saturday Oct. 4, at their Homecoming against Shoreline Christian. The Vikings fell to Shoreline Christian 3-2 in overtime. Coach Stolmeier reports, “We played a great team game; the other team had more at the end of the game but we were far more focused during this game. Barrett North scored both our goals on breakaway runs and our goalkeeper, Fernando Arevalo, controlled the defense and the pace of the game in Orcas territory. Our passing game was much more controlled and the guys bounced back mentally very fast.”
Orcas plays again on Oct. 7 at Providence Christian at 4:00 p.m. and against the Lopez Lobos on Oct. 11 at Lopez at 2:30 p.m.
