The boys’ team defeated Lopez, at 211-261 on Tuesday, April 20. A four-way tie for medalist between Alan Coe, Taylor Diepenbrock, Henri Bredouw and Spencer Sare, with scores of 42, was decided by a put-off, and Coe sunk the win at the second hole.

The girls’ team won their closest match yet, at 260-261.

“It was so close but Orcas pulled out a win against a very formidable ladies Lopez team,” said coach Bobby Olmstead. “We always play Lopez tough, and most of all, have a great time. We always look forward to playing them and not only have a great match, but it gives us all a chance to see good friends also. I am very proud of how both the girls and boys played in this match.”

The next day, on April 21, the Orcas boys defeated Friday Harbor 212-249.

Low medalist for Orcas was Henri Bredouw, with a score of 39, followed by Taylor Diepenbrock and Miles McCloskey with a 41. Alan Coe had a 44 and Spencer Sare and Christopher Ghazel each hit a 47.

The girls did not have a match, but they played well and their scores contributed toward their personal averages. Tara O’Neill scored a 56, Julia Bailey a 60, and Claire O’Neill a 64.

“This win was a good win for our team to build some confidence going into the last week of play,” said Olmstead. “As long as I have been the coach we never have started the year this well. We still have a tough three-way match against LaConner & Lopez on Tuesday, April 27, and a very tough match against Riverside Christian on Thursday (April 29).” The Riverside Christian match will be the last match of the regular season, with league championships, districts, and state championships to follow.
