The Vikings (0-5) faced Friday Harbor (4-1) for the second meeting of the season ending in another loss, 30-6.
Viking Coach Justin Frausto once again faced the top league Wolverine team missing players from an already numbers-challenged team that at best boasts a third of the Friday Harbor roster. But the Vikings played beyond their size, limiting the Wolverines to 16 first-half points in a fantastic defensive effort. The Viking defense only allowed two second-half touchdowns, an impressive effort by a tough group of boys.
Never quitting and with the game clock at 0:00 time remaining, Orcas passed for a touchdown on the last play of the game after a defensive penalty gave the Vikings one last play to score on the Wolverines.
Orcas travels to Bellingham this week.
Boys soccer
The Vikings boys looked past a tough previous week with wins against Lopez and Cedar Park Christian MLT.
On Oct. 7, the Vikings inked their second win against Lopez, matching their last score against the Lobos, 5-0. Orcas carried the momentum to Cedar Park Christian with a 2-0 win, taking the Eagles for the second time. The Vikings (5-7) enter the home stretch of the season with four games remaining. Orcas is bunched in the middle of the pack with Friday Harbor and Grace Academy searching for a way to topple undefeated league leaders Mt. Vernon Christian and Providence Christian. The Vikings take on Shoreline Christian next.
Girls soccer
The Lady Vikings hosted LaConner on Oct. 9 and lost 4-1. Orcas scored its third goal of the season against the Braves after Anneke Fleming passed to Adia Dolan who quickly placed the shot in the net. An improving Lady Viking team kept busy in the second-half tracking a Hurricane team that attacked with cross passes and well-placed shots.
Next on the schedule is Friday Harbor.
Volleyball
The Lady Vikings split the week with a win against Cedar Park Christian 3-0 and a loss to LaConner 3-0. The Vikings are 4-5 overall with only two league games remaining.
Orcas will be looking to catch division leaders Darrington and Shoreline Christian with strong performances against Friday Harbor and Concrete this week.
