The Orcas women’s team came out scoring on Saturday afternoon at the Orcas high school gym. By halftime the Lady Vikings were up by 14 points, leading the Lady Loggers 30-16. Lady Viking Halley Parnell came onboard and covered her defensive outpost like her own shirt. Stephanie Shaw and Laney Padbury both had their share of scoring and were effective on the rebound as well. Shaw had breakaways down the court that were a treat to watch as she pounded down the court and laid it up for a field goal.
The Lady Vikings maintained their persistence and their lead in the third quarter, and the fouls became more numerous as both teams fought for the rebounds and leapt in each other’s way on passes. Sydney Harris and Alison O’Toole both did a fantastic job of defensive manuevering and the turnovers were hot and heavy in the fourth quarter. Darrington capitalized in the last 50 seconds but to no avail. The Lady Vikings, thanks to good solid defense and a well-earned lead, won 42-34.
