On Tuesday, Oct. 7 the girls soccer team traveled to Concrete and beat their opposition 3-0. Coach Chama Anderson noted, “I think that while we played very well overall, traveling off-island does affect the team. They usually arrive early at these functions because of the ferry and they can get worn out from simply waiting. We all must learn to use our time more effectively in these situations.”
While the team may not have played their best in the first half, they came back with a vengeance in the second half. Stephanie Shaw scored first at goal off of a penalty kick, then Grace Thompson scored and Hannah North slammed one home as well for the Vikings.
“This team has only been playing together two years,” Coach Anderson noted, “but already I see the entire team becoming more aggressive and more confident in their passing, as well as in their trust of one another on the field. I can see that they are developing into a great group of players.”
The young women play next against Mt. Vernon Christian on Tuesday Oct. 14 in an away game and on Thursday Oct. 16 at Friday Harbor.
