The Orcas baseball team had a rough game against the Concrete Lions on Monday, April 6. The Vikings lost 19-1 against Concrete at Buck Park.
“We did have a tough time at the plate hitting on Monday,” Coach Joe Duenn said. “Daniel Janssen started the game pitching for us, and he did well in the first couple of innings, but fatigued and lost his focus. The other team got a couple of hits off of him as he fatigued. We did have some walks, and while we are working hard on our hitting, our inexperience hampered us. Our team is young and while they are working on maintaining poise and focus, Concrete was just a stronger, more well established team.
“Concrete has a pretty good pitcher and a very good baseball team. We definitely could have made the game closer. I know we can play more competitively, but Concrete was stronger at bat. We did not show our full potential well.”
Tyler Nigretto came in to pitch for the last couple of innings.
“Tyler is a gutsy kid, and for his first year pitching he’s doing very well,” Duenn said, “as is Brad Brouland. We have a small team as it is, and we were smaller that day because of spring break. We’ll keep on working and practicing our basics.”
The Orcas Vikings play again against the Friday Harbor Wolverines in a double header. The game is on Saturday, April 18 at Buck Park.
