Three members of the Orcas Island Wrestling Club attended the Tumwater 2 Style Classic wrestling tournament over the weekend.
Caleb Dean and Joey Susol each had two hard fought matches but did not place in their brackets. Wrestler Jay Zier won his first match, outscoring his opponent 13-5. Zier then lost his second match, to take second place in the 160-171 lb weight class.
“These tournaments have been a great learning experience for the boys this season,” said coach Jason Dean. “At state they will see a whole new level of competition and where they can take this sport with hard work and more training.”
The team will travel to two state championships next month. The tournaments will be held in Spokane on May 7 for wrestlers up to 8th grade and Mill Creek on May 14 for high school to senior athletes. For information call Jason Dean at 376-2816.
