The Youth Football Season has kicked off with an enthusiastic group of young players.

Last week Orcas Park and Rec hosted a football camp for pee wee level players. Twelve players ages seven to 10 came out to learn basics about football including passing, positions, and how to play the game safely.

Justin Frausto and Denny Rancourt coached these up and coming football stars. Much to the thrill of the players, several Viking football players also helped with the camp.

Beginning Monday, Aug. 19, Orcas Park and Rec starts a youth football camp for players ages 10 to 13.  Coach Dave Mierau will teach the fundamentals of tackle football in preparation to play in the North Cascades Youth Football League (the Kings) in 2014.

Due to NCYFL league rules, they are not eligible to play in the league this year so this is an opportunity for Kings players to get some time on the field and build important skills.

The camp will run for two weeks Aug. 19 to 30 and then continue into the fall. Camp is Monday through Friday from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. and then starting Sept. 4, camp will be  Wednesdays and Fridays from 4:30  to 6:30 p.m and include scrimmage games.

It is not to late to join, even if your player has missed the first week.
