The Orcas High School Sailing Team finished up their fall season with back to back weekends of excellent racing. On Oct. 22 and 23, nine sailors and coach Hannah Tuson-Turner traveled to Olympia to compete against 19 NWISA teams. Winds were light and variable and the wettest October on record showed up at times as well. Six races were completed with Orcas Vikings 1 grabbing 2nd place and Orcas Vikings 2 placing 9th.
Twelve Orcas sailors competed in the annual Orcas Trick or Treat team race regatta on October 29&30. The regatta was hosted by Orcas Island Yacht Club and Sail Orcas. Sailing Team alumni volunteers Sam Parish and Gavin Brackett provided excellent on the water race management, running fifty-five, three on three team races over the two days, completing one full rotation. Orcas Vikings 1 tied for first with a 9-1 win loss record but lost to Charles Wright HS on the tie breaker. Orcas Vikings 2 placed fourth with a 6-4 record.
“We had a fun fall season,” says Coach Hannah. “And are already looking forward to a very competitive spring season.”
The team will do a cross training exercise program this winter in preparation for spring season.
