The Orcas Christian School Saints boys basketball team earned regional attention when it unanimously chose to forfeit its opportunity to go to state.
KOMO News in Seattle reported on the team’s decision to not compete at a playoff game in solidarity with team captain Corey Aragon. Aragon’s father, Robert, had a stroke in spring of 2017, reported KOMO, and an important heart surgery was scheduled for the same day as the playoff game.
Teammate Lucien Anderson told KOMO that the players would probably forget the game in five years but that, “Doing what we did, we’re going to remember that moment forever.”
