The 10th Annual Steve Braun Memorial Triathlon will take place on Sunday, Aug. 31 at Orcas Island Moran State Park, at the Cascade Lake Picnic Area.
The race begins at 9 a.m. with a .4-mile swim in Cascade Lake, followed by a 17-mile bike ride on country roads, and finishing with a 3.5-mile trail run around the Cascade Lake.
This event is sponsored by Orcas Rec, whose director, Didier Gincig, says, “This is a comfortable and fun triathlon open to serious triathletes and those who want to challenge themselves to enjoy completing the picturesque course. Individuals can participate in one, two, or three parts of the triathlon.
“Perhaps you would like to participate as a team. People of all ages to are encouraged to join in any portion of this good-spirited annual event.”
Registration includes a hat, frisbee, and a shirt or coffee mug. Those interested in participating are asked to call 376-5339 for a registration form or to pick up forms at the Orcas Rec. Program office in the Senior Services Building in Eastsound or at Wildlife Cycles. Forms are also online at www.orcasrec.org.
Particpants are asked to send in their registration forms as soon as possible before the race to avoid the morning rush. Registration will be permitted on race day at a $5 additional charge. Pre-registration costs $35 for triathletes, $25 individuals (one or two events or team members) and $20 for those under 18.
There will be an 8:30 a.m. pre-race meeting.

Proceeds benefit the San Juan Preservation Trust, Friends of Moran State Park, and the Orcas Island Recreation Program. For further information, call 376-5339 for more information or go to www.orcasrec.org.
